The Warrior and Medicine Cat Code

The Warrior Code

The below information was taken straight from Erin Hunter's book, 'The Warrior's Field Guide: Secrets of the Clans'. It can also be found elsewhere on the internet on other websites/forums.

    * Defend your Clan, even with your life. You may have friendships with cats from other Clans, but your loyalty must remain to your Clan, as one day you may meet in battle.
    * Do not hunt or trespass on another Clans' territory.
    * Elders and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders.
    * Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks to StarClan for its life.
    * A kit must be at least six moons old to become an apprentice.
    * Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior name.
    * A cat cannot be made deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
    * The deputy will become Clan leader when the leader dies or retires.
    * After the death or retirement of the deputy, the new deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
    * A gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon during a truce that lasts for the night. There shall be no fighting among Clans at this time.
    * Boundaries must be checked and marked daily. Challenge all trespassing cats.
    * No warrior may neglect a kit in pain or in danger, even if that kit is from a different Clan.
    * The word of the Clan leader is the warrior code.
    * An honorable warrior does not need to kill other cats to win his battles, unless they are outside the warrior code or it is necessary for self-defense.
    * A warrior rejects the soft life of a kittypet.

The following parts of the Warrior Code are not written in Secrets of the Clans, but are implied by the Clan cats and followed as law in the book series. These, as well as the above mentioned, are to be followed by Clan cats:

    * The Clan is to be fed before any individual cat.
    * The safety of the Clan is more important than that of any individual cat.
    * Each Clan has specific borders.
    * Prey is not to be stolen from another Clan's territory.
    * Clan borders are not to be crossed (unless of special occasions going to Moonpool)
    * A Gathering lasts as long as the moon is highest in the sky.
    * There is a truce during the Gathering.
    * Under no circumstances may the truce be broken.
    * Medicine cats may not fall in love nor have kits.
    * Cats may not fall in love with nor have kits with cats from other Clans.
    * Kits must be at least six moons old to be an apprentice.
    * Kits may not leave the camp without permission.
    * Kits may not learn to hunt until they are apprenticed.
    * Apprentices must accompany the leader to Highstones/the Moonpool as a part of their training.
    * Newly made warriors must sit vigil for their first night and guard the camp in silence.
    * Warriors may not kill in cold blood.
    * Warriors must show compassion.
    * A deputy must be chosen before moonhigh of the previous deputy's resignation or death.
    * To be a deputy a cat must have had an apprentice.
    * Warriors may not attack a medicine cat.
    * Cats have free passage to the Moonpool.
    * There may be no more nor less than four Clans.
    * Strangers should be driven from a Clan's territory.
    * Cats should show mercy to cats who ask for help.
    * Warriors do not fight to kill; they fight to prove their strength and defend their territory.

The Medicine Cat Code
* A medicine cat may not fall in love or take a mate.
* A medicine cat may not have kits.
* A medicine cat may only retire when their apprentice is ready to take their place.
* A medicine cat shares dreams with only StarClan.
* A medicine cat may only discuss dreams, prophecies, etc. with their leader or other medicine cats at the monthly meeting; dreams of an otherwise prophetic nature should not be disclosed to any outside parties, or any other cats in the Clan.
