The Forgotten Forest
An In-Depth Guide to Application
The application process can sometimes be a little daunting with all of the information you must take into account. This page is here to help you understand exactly what we are looking for, and where to find the information you need for each piece.
01
Locate the correct template
Navigate to the forums and find the application template for the type of character you are applying for.
02
Copy/Paste the template into a new post
Find the correct section for your application (either a clan's individual forum or the appropriate non-clan forum) and create a new post. Paste the template into the body. You may need to adjust the formatting. Title the post with your character's name and desired rank.
03
Character Identification
The first few lines are dedicated to the identification of you and your character.

Furcadia Login Name: The name you will use to access the IC area of the dream while playing this character. It should be as similar as possible to your cat's current IC name (or future warrior name). Note in this example there is a single "x" before the character's name, as the desired username was not available. Small accommodations such as this are acceptable. You may also log in with a warrior name for an apprentice as long as it is noted in your Furcadia Description.
Preferred Character Name: What you want the character to actually be named. This is the character's future warrior name if they are currently kit/apprentice.

Desired Clan: Where your character will live.

Desired Ranking: What level you want to start the character at (kit, apprentice, warrior, senior warrior, elder -- higher ranks available on a limited basis by special application).

Desired Character Age: Your character's age, preferably in moons. The age must be reasonable for the rank you are applying for, and for the cat's lifestyle. For example, kittypets may reasonably live much longer than a clan cat. A basic timeline is on the "Aging" page.

Gender: Male/Female, Spayed/Neutered, etc.
04
Character Reference
Reference Photo: Here is where a lot of people get stuck. This dream has a strict realism standard, and in order to ensure we maintain that standard we require a photo to base your cat's appearance on. This helps ensure that you are choosing a color pattern and palette that can reasonably exist in the real world and outside of a purebred, pedigree cat bloodline.
However, we recognize that your "perfect cat" may be difficult to find. To compromise, we allow additional references (including artwork, as long as you provide an acceptable photograph to back it up).
What does this mean? You find the perfect cat photo but your character is supposed to have one white paw and the photo doesn't, or maybe you just want to add one white whisker to the bundle of black ones. Maybe your photo has a white spot that you don't want on the character. Those are all acceptable minor marking additions! Add your artwork or complimenting photo and the character will be approved with the altered marking.

There ARE limitations with this:
- You still cannot use a purebred/pedigree cat photo unless you have been approved to do so.
- Eye color cannot be changed in most cases. Eye color is heavily linked with coat color and pattern.
- Cannot change or cover more than 10% of the marking area.
- Cannot significantly change color or saturation levels.
- Staff reserves the right to say no or adjust rulings at any time.

Still having trouble? Not sure if a photo will pass?

Character Descriptions
We ask for three separate descriptions in the application. Each one has a different purpose.

Physical Description: This is where you get to detail every little thing about your character! Write as much as you want about their physical appearance. Just make sure it matches your reference/s.

Furcadia Description: Furcadia has a limited description space, so you may not fit everything you wrote above. We also have a few basic requirements about tags and information (such as clan and rank) that should be in your Furcadia Description, and want to see them here.

Summarized Description: This should be short and sweet, no more than one sentence of 5-10 words. It will be copied onto the member page on the website.
06
Character & Worldbuilding
The next section is for your character's history. We want to make sure that your character's story fits within the larger story of our continuity. Here is where you should let us know if you plan anything in your character's background other than "clan born" or other generic origins. Staff will check to make sure your story fits within our canon, and will help you make adjustments as necessary so that everyone meshes into our shared storybook comfortably.

Your character's core personality should also be fleshed out here. Even if you are not 100% certain on your character's traits, at least provide a solid foundation you may refer back to and build upon. Is your character gruff? Soft-hearted? Slow to warm up? Social butterfly? It's good to have a full description, but you only need a few words to get started.
07
Additional Information
If your character has a Toyhou.se or webpage, feel free to share it! Applications are archived once accepted, so you and other players are always able to refer back to them for information.

The Audition
We welcome a variety of playstyles, but we do have a dreamwide literacy standard. What we want to see here is your typical roleplay style. You may copy from old roleplays if you'd like, or you may write something entirely new.
Most people will pass easily. Our primary goal here is not to say whether or not you are a "good roleplayer"; instead, we want to make sure you will be prepared for the world you are jumping into. We don't want an inexperienced player to be thrown into a large, intricate world and be drowned in paragraph posts while their short replies go unnoticed. That isn't fun for you. This lets us know if we need to help ease you into the game, or help you find players who enjoy teaching and building up other players.
This also gives us an idea of if you are ready to take on the character role you have applied for. We want our higher-ranked cats to be strong roleplayers who are deeply familiar with the Warrior Cats world, and we want to ensure that character types who can potentially cause a lot of in-game consequences are played by responsible players.
So show us what you can do!
That's It!
Hit Submit!
Once you are satisfied with your application, you may submit it. Two staff members must approve the application in order for the character to be accepted into the dream. Once your character has been approved, contact a staff member for the next steps.
